Tammi Deines’ and Georgia Johnson’s 2nd through 6th grades created a project integrating the Winter Olympics and mathematics. The students researched various Olympic topics, ranging from history of the torch, to their countries’ flags, to Olympic hopefuls. It was decided that Healy would focus on “figure” skating. Through a variety of activities, the 4th-6th grade students will teach the 2nd-3rd grade students about polygons. As a culminating activity, the class participated in the Healy 2010 Winter Olympics, in which the students took part in a “figure” skating event of their own. To collaborate with Triplains we corresponded through SKYPE and GAGGLE.
