Students in Diane Campbell’s 3rd grade classroom in Enterprise Elementary in Wichita, KS reviewed the qualities of a good retelling by writing both good and bad examples of them. After reviewing the elements of a good retelling with students they created three good retellings and one bad retelling of stories in picture books from the library. Student teams of 2-3 read a self-selected picture book, wrote retellings (3 bad and 1 good) and created a PowerPoint to help others in their building practice the skill of identifying the correct retelling.
