Mary Durand, math teacher, and Jeremy Weilert, science and social studies teacher, at Humboldt Middle School, collaborated to pull their 6th and 7th grade math and social studies students together for community involvement. Students used knowledge gained in math class to gather, organize, evaluate, and display the data to provide information that would persuade their audience towards a community need: Changing the Crosswalk at the Middle School. Not only did this project support the math and social studies standards learned in class, the students were presented with challenges and new lifelong learning opportunities.
