Ready to give it a WHIRL and read the latest blog in cyberspace? The mission of the WHIRL blog is to inspire educators with free, web-based resources, strategies and ideas that enhance instruction and contribute to the construction of powerful learning environments for all students. The authors and contributors to the WHIRL blog are members of the Technology Rich Classroom (TRC), Title II-D program in Kansas.
A blog or weblog is usually created by one person to display entries in a journalistic format. Blog entries are viewed in reverse chronological order and usually viewers have the option to add comments at the end of each entry. Authors may also choose to moderate comments. A blog can include text, images, videos, and links to Web sites.
The WHIRL blog is a collaborative publication and reflects the diversity of the educators involved in TRC, as well as, a shared vision of powerful instruction. Resources are grounded in our program goals which include a focus on increased student achievement, sustained professional development and the powerful integration of standards-based content with the ISTE NETS. Our logo is a visual representation of these goals, infusing our content focus areas of language arts, math, and science and our belief that student achievement can be increased when classroom instruction incorporates higher order thinking, student-centered learning, collaboration and connections beyond the classroom walls. TRC Facilitators serve as instructional resources and mentors to teacher teams to assist with the blending of powerful instructional practices and innovative technologies.
