Preparing Today's Students for Tomorrow's World

Connecting Technology with Parent Involovement

How many times have we heard parents tell us that when they ask their children what did you learn today, the usual answer was "Noth'n!" Well!!!!! That is changing quickly! During our book study "Empowering Students With Technology" by Alan November, talked about the many ways educators can connect school andfamily. In the technology rich classrooms teachers are using emails to keep parents in the loop about grades and to do quick messaging to parents. There's also video conferencing and so much more. The only downside to this is that so many of our families still don't have access to computers.

Thank you for posting this Pam! Connecting with parents is a powerful way to engage your students as well. Parent Nights or Open Houses are another great place to connect with parents, especially if many of your families do not have Internet. The students become the teachers and walk the parents through the various projects they've been doing and showing them the technologies that they have been using. I've even seen some students running instructional sessions for parents at these events.
