Track & Field Day Project

The students in fourth and fifth grade at Kingman Elementary began with the essential question: “Why do we measure things?” Students explored the different types of measurement (i.e., volume, weight, time, height, length, etc.), the varying units of measurement (i.e., inches versus centimeter), and worked with decimals and rounding with the measurement units. As a class, the students designed a track and field event that utilizes a type of measurement; then the students used a variety of tools to create individual lesson plans to teach groups of the peers about the type of measurement with which they would need to be familiar in order to compete in the track & field event the class has created. The culmination is students teaching groups of peers their lessons and having a track & field day with their created events. Teachers involved in planning and facilitating the project are: Linda Hageman, Jill Shippy, Jalynn Speck, Steve Bangert, and Heather Pickering. The official focus…See More

Let me start by saying that I think that resource sharing should not have fees associated with it; however, if you are looking to make some money, this is a good site to market your fresh ideas and phenomenal lesson plans.The website TeachersPayTeachers has created a marketplace to allows teachers to buy, sell, and give away high quality lesson plans, exams/quizzes, worksheets, powerpoints, and much more. Most of the freebies on this site are worksheets, powerpoints, clipart, posters, etc. (like these color centers cards). Profile Information

MY PROPOSED SCHEDULE

I will be at Kingman Elementary School working in the Technology Rich Classrooms all day on Thursdays and Fridays. I will do research and administrative duties on Monday afternoon in the tech workroom. Local professional development days will be held at the USD 331 District Office and on locations of site visits.


WEEKLY SCHEDULE:

 

MONDAY:

11:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. = Administrative Duties

 

THURSDAY:

7:45 A.M. - 9:05 A.M. = 5th Grade Planning Time

9:05 A.M. - 9:55 A.M. = 4th Grade Planning Time

9:55 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. = 4th Grade Steve Bangert (Math)

12:30 P.M. - 3:30 P.M. = 5th Grade Jill Shippy (Math)

 

FRIDAY:

7:45 A.M. - 9:05 A.M. = 5th Grade Planning Time

9:05 A.M. - 9:55 A.M. = 4th Grade Planning Time

9:55 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. = 4th Grade Jalynn Speck (Math)

12:30 P.M. - 3:30 P.M. = 5th Grade Linda Hageman (Math)

 

(Please note: The above schedule is a goal and could be changed to meet the needs of the teachers, facilitator, and administration.)
