Designate one computer to sync ipods.
Itunes cards so you don’t need to put a credit card on file to buy apps.
Designate a room to serve as a lab for mobile devices, e.g. ipod touches.
Do you have to pay tax on the Itunes cards? How are you keeping track of the apps that are purchased? I have signed us up for the VPP Program and I am still waiting on the final approval. It does seem rather complicated. I thing if Itunes would just accept tax exempt certificates from schools like other vendors do then we wouldn't have to deal with the tax issue.

Hi Brian,

The list that I shared above was a summary from a convo I had at one of our PL days. You raise some great questions. I would think that a school could by the cards with their tax exempt ID and then distribute the cards to teachers/managers of the devices. It is a complicated initiative that definitely requires forethought, and it is hard to 'fly the plane while you are building it'. I would recommend having one computer designated for downloading the apps in the district and then they can be distributed, or maybe one computer per grade level and content area? Then one person (technology coach or leader) would keep track of the apps and report them to the district technology team.

And just to chime in Brian, at MACE last week, I went to a presentation by Doug Jensen (Tech Dir at El Dorado) and his wife Julie and they talked about how they did their middle school roll out and Doug shared the steps he went through to organize, order and now manage all of the ipods, cards, etc.  You can see his information and ppt from the link below.  Also, he is a great guy and resource and would welcome a call from you!  He also welcomed any visitors out to see the kids and teachers in action!  Keep us posted as you pioneer this!!  http://ehsmedia.eldoradoschools.org/groups/dougjensen/wiki/74431/Te...
