Students in Tammi Deines' and Georgia Johnson's 2nd-6th grade classes at Healy Elementary School were inspired by the 2010 Winter Olympics. The students researched various Olympic topics, ranging from history of the torch, to their countries’ flags, to Olympic hopefuls. It was decided that Healy would focus on “figure” skating. Through a variety of activities, the 4th-6th grade students will teach the 2nd-3rd grade students about polygons. As a culminating activity, the class participated in the Healy 2010 Winter Olympics, in which the students took part in a “figure” skating event of their own. To collaborate with Triplains we corresponded through SKYPE and GAGGLE to conduct their own Winter Math Olympics.
With the limited time for the video many parts of the project are not going to be seen so be sure to ask and see all parts of the project during round table discussions.
