Preparing Today's Students for Tomorrow's World

In order to help you prepare your team, we’ve assembled this FAQ forum. The following is a list of questions that have come up this year or in years past. Take a look and post additional questions to this forum or to me via email. ~Amber amber@altec.org

Q - When and Where?
A -
When - TRC Celebration is Wednesday, April 29th from 8:30-4:00.
Where - Hyatt Regency and Century II Convention Center

Q - How long are the presentations?

A - 30 minutes

Q - Do we need handouts?
A - Feel free to bring handouts. It's up to you. 50 copies should do. We will ask that all facilitators post electronic copies of all presentation materials to our Celebration Materials Blog posting (click here to post or click on the Blogs tab at the top of this NING).

Q - How long should our presentation last?
A - Each presentation will last 30 minutes. You may choose to have each teacher present separately for a portion of those 30 minutes or you can team present as a group for the entire time.

Q - How many teachers will be a part of each presentation?
A - We would like a minimum of two teachers and a maximum of four teachers per presentation. If your TRC grant covers two schools, then you will need to do two presentations (one per school).

Q - What components are you looking for in our presentation?
A - We are excited to see how you’ve grown in your technology integration this year, and we want to give you a chance to share with one another. Your presentation is a showcase of technology use that supports core content, specifically the content addressed by your grant (reading, math, or science). We hope to see examples of HOTS, 21st Century Skills and student centered approaches. Your colleagues would love to see lessons where your students are beginning to work in cooperative learning teams and are incorporating real world learning opportunities or connections. We ask that you include assessment tools used by the teacher to measure student learning (e.g. rubrics and PBL checklists made at http://altec.org).

Q - What equipment should we bring?

A - We will supply projectors. Just bring your own laptops and any other visuals, examples of student work, or hands-on materials that are necessary.

Q - How should we share our lesson?
A - We ask that you share your lesson in two formats. First, please bring handouts as part of your session. It is nice to be able to leave with a copy of the exciting things you are doing, and attendees can also make personalized notes. Second, we will ask for an electronic handout of your presentation to be posted on the http://trc.altec.org site. You can either burn Amber a CD or you can bring a flashdrive to copy it over.

Q - I’m nervous, what can I to do help calm myself down?
A - Practice, practice, practice. Remember that everyone is in the same boat, and no one is judging you. We just want to CELEBRATE TRC and give you a chance to network, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.

Q - When do you need list of names for Celebration attendees from my TRC site?
A - April 1st Melinda needs the names of the teachers, facilitator and administrators that you are bringing to the Celebration. Please email her the names. This list is your Celebration registration and we need the names in order to get you in and fed!

Q - Is there an extra charge for administrators from our TRC who want to attend Celebration?

A - No. There will be no extra charge for administrators who are attending from your TRC school. Be sure they are on the list that you email to Melinda.

Q - If TRC teachers, facilitators and/or administrators want to stay for the KSDE conference (which is being held the Thursday and Friday after our Celebration) do they need to register online?
A - Yes. Our Celebration is a preconference event. If you plan to stay for the KSDE conference than you need to be sure and register with KSDE and pay their registration fees. TRC folks SHOULD NOT sign up for the preconference though!!! They will charge you. Melinda's list gets TRC folks into Celebration for free.

Q - Do new applicants (Phase 7 hopefuls) need to register for KSDE preconference in order to attend the TRC Celebration?
A - Yes. Anyone outside the current participating TRC Schools must register online and pay to attend the TRC Celebration.

You mentioned that it was optional to bring handouts and then you mention in the what we should bring with our lesson to have handouts. Are they required or not?
Thanks,
Joyce
Handouts are not required this year. We are leaving it up to the teams to decide. We WILL however, ask that you post all Celebration materials--including PowerPoints, samples and handouts (if applicable) to the NING Celebration Materials Blog so that anyone in attendance will have access to them. Thanks Joyce for the clarifying question!!!
